Hobé
HOBE jewelry is one of the best designed and manufactured jewelry available, today and for more than one hundred years. The first Hobe designer and manufacturer was Jacques Hobe, a well-known jeweler in Paris in the late 1880s. His designs were primarily fine jewelry, but he developed one revolutionary concept; make quality jewelry affordable to people besides the wealthy society. The Industrial Revolution was in its infancy, and manufacturing processes were making mass production a viable concept.
Jacques decided he could make jewelry in metals other than gold and silver, and use stones other than diamond and precious stones. The one thing he decided not to substitute was the handcrafting each piece would receive. The most important things were maintaining quality in design and manufacture. His successful innovations were carried to America by his son William.
America warmly embraced William, from New York to Hollywood. His unique creations were sought after by Hollywood stars that Hobe opened a shop at 311 N Beverly Dr. Hobe designed not only jewelry but costume designs for the stars as well. Beginning in the 1940s, the most popular movie stars promoted the Hobe line, whose slogan was "Jewels of Legendary Splendor".
And splendid they still are, luxurious even, with their antique flair, the brilliant designs using the very best quality rhinestones, the intricate twisting and weaving done in fine wire and the special detailing such as careful soldering that remains hidden.
Jacques's innovation and imagination continue to be passed down through each generation of Hobe. William's sons Robert and David were also designers, using unique stones and beads sought worldwide, and they hold the exclusive rights to the high quality imitation pearls from the Spanish Island of Majorca.
Costume jewelry collectors always think of Hobé. These intricate pieces of jewelry are stunning accessories with immense detail.
