Alterations &
Garment Care

"

Every garment carries a memory."

— Dear Garment House · GRANDVIEW HEIGHTS, Ohio

A garment that fits is a garment that lives and stays around.

The fastest path to a landfill is disconnection. Perhaps due to a poor fit. A hem that drags. We tell ourselves we'll deal with it and then we don't. And the garment disappears, often to a bin, then a truck, then gone. (Remember the one truck load dumped in the landfill every second?)

At Dear Garment House, we believe the most radical thing you can do for the planet is care. Fall back in love with what you already own. Sometimes all it takes is an inch.

We alter, mend, reinvent, and restore, not because we're sentimental (though we are); but because we know that a well-fitted garment is one you'll reach for again and again. That's intentional. That is less waste. That's less buying. That's fashion working the way it was always meant to. That is making fashion for good.

"The most sustainable garment is the one already in your closet, especially when it fits."

— Priscila Teixeira · Founder, Dear Garment House

Three reasons to alter instead of discard.

🧵
Stories deserve to continue

The coat your grandmother wore. The dress from the night everything changed. The vintage find that chose you. These garments carry more than fabric — they carry memory. We handle them accordingly.

🌱
The planet can't afford fast fixes

Fashion is the second most polluting industry in the world. Every garment we extend is one less piece in a landfill. Alteration is the original circular fashion — it was never about trends. It was always about care.

You deserve clothes that fit

Off-the-rack was never designed for your body — it was designed for an average. You are not an average. When a garment fits the way it should, you carry yourself differently. That's not vanity. That's confidence.

Meet Logan Boyer, our Alterations Lead.

Logan doesn't just alter garments — she listens to them. As a senior at the Columbus College of Art & Design finishing her own fashion collection, she brings a designer's eye and a craftsperson's hands to every piece that comes through our door.

A rare kind of care.

Logan's most recent client cried — in the best way — when she tried on a mother-of-the-bride dress that Logan had altered to fit not just a body, but an entire occasion's worth of emotion. She has transformed antique silk dresses that most studios would decline, mended pieces that some would consider beyond saving, and brought back garments that had been waiting years for the right hands.

Logan begins taking alteration appointments at Dear Garment House in October. Her calendar moves quickly. Submit your request early.
